Dublin Shoegazers Submotile: Worldwide Music Video Premiere "Winter Storm Sequence"

Submotile are a Shoegaze band from Dublin, Ireland. Formed in early 2018, the band initially started out with a number of ambient and experimental releases, before evolving their sound considerably with the autumn 2018 release of the five-track We're Losing the Light EP.

Submotile is Michael Farren and Daniela Angione Farren.

They are now doing us the great honor of giving us the premiere of their new music video. Thanks a lot.

Before watching/listening, Michael will tell you more about the song and the video.

Song Background

Winter Storm Sequence is my favorite song of ours. When we started making music, we wanted to create a sound that blended ambient, shoegaze and post-rock elements. I think with this song, we managed to do exactly that.

It was a very tricky one to mix, having over 140 tracks - the vocals alone ended up taking nearly three days to mix, but I love Daniela's singing on this and I think it turned out really well.

The main guitar used here was my Rickenbacker 330 into a Vox AC30 amp - a sound that normally is associated with jangly, chimey, upbeat music - this song is anything but.

Video Information

The video contains a lot of landscape shots that I have taken over the years, from all over the world - Russia, Tanzania, Italy, Cuba South America...a lot of mountain shots. I was a mountain climber and had spent years climbing all over the world. In 2012, I had a spontaneous collapsed lung, its corrective surgery effectively closed the door on the climbing world for me forever. So, it's quite poignant for me looking back at a lot of these shots, I think they suit the music perfectly.

The video also contains a lot of shots of Slea Head on the Dingle Peninsula - probably my favorite place in the world, it's just beautiful, with the beach in particular having an almost magical quality about it. It's in the final shot of the video.

As a matter of fact I agree with Michael: Slea Head is probably one of the most beautiful place in the world. we hope you enjoy the video.

Taken off the 2019 album Ghosts Fade on Skylines.
